Short film description
Burning butterflies and harvesting a heatwave was a response to watching butterfly’s on my walk through the field after the cutting of the long grass, butterflies fluttered up and down seemingly looking for shelter. I dreamt I was a butterfly with skeleton wings. I am concerned about the effects of industrial farming on our soil yet I have fear and joy of rising temperatures. The music is Sanskrit as the heat wave takes me back to my time living in India and Sri Lanka and my fascination with eastern mysticism.
Art work description.
’Land as body’ a 2m x 1.4m painting was informed by marks made when seated on a woodland floor, sketching and draughting took place over many weeks to settle upon the ideal shape, form and colour pallet to best represent a landscape touched by the golden hour. The result was a large mixed media abstract landscape on cotton canvas.
Artists Statement
I am concerned with how my identity, natural systems and memory translate to materiality. Looking at boundaries and structures in my processes that span across collecting, drawing, painting, weaving, photography, research, clay, sculpture, mark making, textile, installation and performance. Although an early career multidisciplinary artist I am reflecting and observing my consciousness, nature, the beginnings and endings in form and fragility.
